    Last Updated: February 27, 2026

Capsule Study (the "Service") is operated by Lantern Studio LLC ("Capsule Study", "we", "us", or "our"), a limited liability company organized under the laws of the United States. Capsule Study provides AI-powered study and note-taking tools that help users turn lectures, recordings, files, links, and other learning materials into notes, transcripts, flashcards, quizzes, mind maps, audio recaps, chat, and review tasks.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information when you use our websites, applications, and related services that link to this policy.

This policy applies to personal information we collect from users of the Service. It does not apply to third-party websites or services that we do not control, even if they are linked from or integrated with the Service.

    1. Personal Information We Collect

We collect personal information from the following sources.

    Information you provide

    • Account and profile information: name, email address, password or authentication credentials, third-party login details, language and notification preferences, learning goals, school, course, or similar profile information you choose to provide.
    • User content: audio and video recordings, PDFs, slides, documents, images, pasted text, web links, search queries, extracted text, transcripts, prompts, chat messages, notes, flashcards, quizzes, mind maps, review tasks, annotations, tags, shared study kits, and other materials you create, upload, import, record, or transmit through the Service.
    • Payment and subscription information: plan type, purchase history, transaction identifiers, invoice status, billing contact details, and similar commercial information. Payment card details are handled by our payment processor and are not stored by us in full.
    • Communications: messages you send to us through support, contact forms, surveys, feedback tools, email, or other channels.

    Information collected automatically

    • Device and log information: IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, approximate location derived from technical data, referring URLs, pages viewed, timestamps, feature usage, error reports, and diagnostic data.
    • Cookies and local storage: information used to keep you signed in, remember settings, secure the Service, measure performance, and understand how the Service is used.

    Information from third parties

    • Authentication providers, such as Google, may provide profile details like your name, email address, and account identifier when you sign in through them.
    • Payment processors may provide subscription, payment status, chargeback, tax, and invoice information.
    • Other users may provide information about you when they invite you to a workspace, share content with you, or collaborate with you.
    • When you ask us to import a public web page, search a paper provider, or connect with a third-party source, we may receive information from that source to complete your request.

    2. How We Use Personal Information

    We use personal information to:

    • Create, authenticate, secure, and manage user accounts.
    • Provide the Service, including recording, uploading, importing, transcribing, extracting text, generating notes, summaries, flashcards, quizzes, mind maps, audio recaps, chat answers, and review tasks.
    • Store, sync, organize, display, and share your content according to your settings and actions.
    • Personalize the Service, recommend next study actions, and remember preferences.
    • Process payments, subscriptions, refunds, and billing support.
    • Provide customer support, respond to requests, send administrative messages, and notify you about security or service changes.
    • Measure, debug, analyze, and improve service quality, reliability, safety, and user experience.
    • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, security incidents, policy violations, and illegal activity.
    • Comply with law, enforce our terms, resolve disputes, and protect the rights, property, and safety of users, the public, and us.
    • Send marketing or product updates where permitted by law. You may opt out of marketing messages at any time.

    3. AI Processing and User Content

Your user content remains yours. We process user content to provide the features you request and to maintain, secure, and improve the Service.

    • To generate study materials, we may process your uploads, recordings, transcripts, links, prompts, excerpts, embeddings, and AI outputs through trusted service providers that support cloud hosting, storage, queues, OCR, transcription, embeddings, AI models, search, and related infrastructure.
    • We do not sell your private user content. We do not make private user content public unless you choose to share it or direct us to do so.
    • We instruct our AI and processing providers not to use private customer content to train their general-purpose models, where such controls are available, and we enable those controls for our account configuration.
    • We may use de-identified or aggregated information to understand usage trends, fix errors, evaluate output quality, and improve the Service.
    • AI-generated outputs (such as summaries, flashcards, quizzes, and chat answers) may be inaccurate or incomplete. You should independently verify important information before relying on it, and should not use AI outputs for high-stakes purposes (such as medical, legal, financial, or academic-integrity decisions) without independent review.
    • You are responsible for the content you upload, record, import, or share through the Service. You represent that you have the rights and, where required, the consents necessary to provide such content to us, including consents required to record other individuals or to use third-party materials. Please do not upload highly sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for your use of the Service.

    4. How We Disclose Personal Information

We do not sell personal information. We may disclose personal information in the following circumstances:

    • Service providers and subprocessors: hosting, database, storage, authentication, AI model, transcription, OCR, embedding, search, analytics, monitoring, email, customer support, payment, security, and operations providers that process information for us.
    • Account, workspace, and sharing recipients: people who can access content because you invited them, joined a team, shared a link, published content, or used collaboration features. Once content is shared via a link or made public, recipients may further view, copy, or redistribute it, and our ability to control that content may be limited.
    • Payment processors: providers that process payments, subscriptions, invoices, taxes, chargebacks, and fraud checks.
    • Legal and safety reasons: authorities, courts, or other parties when we believe disclosure is required or appropriate to comply with law, enforce our terms, protect safety, prevent fraud, or respond to lawful requests.
    • Business transfers: parties involved in a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, bankruptcy, or similar transaction, subject to appropriate protections.
    • With your direction or consent: when you ask us to share information or otherwise consent to disclosure.

    5. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies, local storage, pixels, tags, and similar technologies to provide sign-in sessions, remember preferences, protect accounts, understand traffic, measure feature use, improve performance, and diagnose issues.

You can manage cookies through your browser settings, but disabling essential cookies may prevent parts of the Service from working. Where required by applicable law, we will request your consent for non-essential cookies. Because there is no common industry standard for browser "Do Not Track" signals, we do not currently respond to them unless required by applicable law.

    6. Your Choices and Controls

    • You may update certain account information and preferences in your account settings.
    • You may delete notes, recordings, files, generated study materials, or your account using available product controls, or by contacting us.
    • You control whether content is private, shared with a workspace, or available through a share link, subject to the features available in the Service.
    • You may opt out of marketing emails by using the unsubscribe mechanism in the message or contacting us. We may still send transactional, security, and service messages.
    • You may manage cookies through your browser or device settings.
    • You may revoke third-party account access through the relevant provider, such as Google, and may need to update your account settings afterward.

    7. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Service, maintain your account, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, protect security, and support legitimate business purposes. General retention practices include:

    • Account information: retained while your account is active and for a limited period after account deletion.
    • User content: retained while your account is active or until you delete it.
    • Payment and tax records: retained for the period required by applicable financial and tax laws.
    • Support communications: retained for a reasonable period to maintain service quality and recordkeeping.
    • Logs and security records: retained for a limited period necessary to support security, debugging, and abuse prevention.
    • Backups: deleted content may remain in encrypted backups for a limited period before being overwritten.

We may retain de-identified or aggregated information that no longer reasonably identifies you.

    8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including access controls, encryption in transit where supported, monitoring, and least-privilege practices.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for using the Service in a careful manner.

    9. International Data Transfers

Lantern Studio LLC is based in the United States. Personal information is primarily processed in the United States and may also be processed in other jurisdictions where our service providers operate. These locations may have privacy laws that differ from those in your jurisdiction.

When required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, adequacy decisions, or other mechanisms recognized by applicable law.

    10. Third-Party Services

The Service may link to, integrate with, or let you import information from third-party websites, paper databases, authentication providers, payment processors, storage services, and other platforms. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We encourage you to review those policies before using third-party services or submitting information to them.

    11. Privacy for Younger Users

The Service is not directed to children under 13, or the equivalent minimum age in the relevant jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age without required parental or guardian consent.

If you are under 18, you should use the Service only with the involvement of a parent, guardian, school, or other authorized adult where required by applicable law.

Where a school, institution, or organization makes the Service available to its students or members, that organization is responsible for obtaining any necessary consents and authorizations for those individuals to use the Service.

If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child without required consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

    12. Regional Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, subject to legal limits and verification requirements. These rights may include the right to:

    • Access or receive a copy of personal information we hold.
    • Correct inaccurate personal information.
    • Delete personal information.
    • Receive information in a portable format.
    • Restrict or object to certain processing activities.
    • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
    • Opt out of the sale of personal information, sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising, or targeted advertising where applicable. We do not currently sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are commonly defined under U.S. state privacy laws.
    • Appeal a denied privacy request where required by applicable law.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

For users in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Switzerland, or similar regions, our legal bases for processing may include performance of a contract, compliance with legal obligations, our legitimate interests, your consent, and protection of vital interests where applicable. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise a privacy right, contact us at support@capsulestudy.app with the subject line "Privacy Request." We may ask for information needed to verify your identity, locate your account, and process your request. We aim to respond within the time period required by applicable law.

    13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify you, such as by posting the updated policy on this page, changing the "Last Updated" date, or sending a notice through the Service. Where required by applicable law, we will obtain your consent for material changes.

Your continued use of the Service after an update means that the updated policy applies to your use of the Service.
